P2 Chinese comprehension practice
Singapore Primary 2 Chinese, comprehension (阅读理解): read a passage and answer on it, testing understanding, inference, summary and retrieval together — the heaviest section, and the one that separates the marks. Everything here follows the MOE syllabus. You can try one set free without signing up, and it is marked as you go — get one wrong and the same point comes back asked a different way, so your child can build the foundation on comprehension. What is tested in P2 comprehension
In P1 and P2 comprehension is a passage of a few dozen characters with a handful of multiple-choice questions, testing literal understanding: who, what they did, where. There are not many items and the passages are short stories at textbook level.
Common traps
- One option repeats something the passage says, but not the thing being asked about.
- Sequence items: what happened first — a child orders it the way they would have done it.
- A why item whose answer sits in the next sentence, and the child reads only the sentence asked about.
How to practise
Read to the end before answering rather than hunting while reading. Comprehension at this age is built by reading, so a short passage each day beats a worksheet each day.

阅读短文，回答问题： 今天是小乐的生日。早上，妈妈带他去熟食中心吃早餐。小乐很高兴，因为妈妈答应送他一个玩具。吃完早餐后，他们去巴刹买菜。在巴刹门口，小乐看到一个老奶奶坐在地上，看起来很累。老奶奶的袋子破了，东西掉了一地。小乐想了想，对妈妈说：“妈妈，玩具下次再买吧，我们先帮老奶奶好吗？”妈妈笑了，点点头。他们帮老奶奶捡起东西，还送她回家。老奶奶很感激，说小乐是个好孩子。小乐今天虽然没买到玩具，但他心里很开心。晚上，爸爸回家，送给小乐一本书。小乐打开书，发现里面有一张纸条，写着：“生日快乐！这个星期天，爸爸陪你去买玩具。” 问题：小乐的生日早上，妈妈带他去哪里吃早餐？

Why: The answer is “熟食中心” (hawker centre). The passage says “早上，妈妈带他去熟食中心吃早餐。” “巴刹” is wrong: they went to the market to buy food after breakfast. “老奶奶家” is wrong: they only took the old lady home after helping her at the market entrance, not for breakfast. “自己家里” is wrong: the passage says breakfast was at the hawker centre, not at home.
阅读短文，回答问题： 星期天早上，欢欢和小乐跟着妈妈去组屋楼下的巴刹买菜。巴刹里很热闹，有卖水果的、卖鱼的，还有卖衣服的。欢欢看到一位老奶奶在卖自己做的豆花，她心里想：“妈妈常常说，要支持小贩，因为他们很辛苦。”于是，欢欢拉着妈妈去买了一碗豆花。豆花又滑又甜，很好吃。吃完后，欢欢发现地上有一个钱包，她捡起来，打开一看，里面有一些钱和一张照片。欢欢和小乐决定把钱包还给失主。他们等了一会儿，看到一位叔叔匆匆忙忙地走过来，好像在找东西。欢欢走上前问：“叔叔，您是不是丢了钱包？”叔叔高兴地说：“是的！谢谢你，小朋友！”叔叔从钱包里拿出一张五元钞票要给欢欢，欢欢摇摇头说：“不用了，这是我应该做的。”妈妈笑着摸了摸欢欢的头，说：“欢欢真懂事！” 问题：欢欢和妈妈去巴刹做什么？

Why: The answer is "买菜". The first sentence says "欢欢和小乐跟着妈妈去组屋楼下的巴刹买菜", so they went to buy groceries. "买豆花" happened later, not the main purpose. "卖衣服" is what others were selling, not them. "找钱包" is what they did after finding the wallet.
阅读短文，回答问题： 今天是小乐的生日，他一大早就起床了。妈妈说要带他去巴刹买菜，晚上给他煮他最爱吃的鱼丸面当生日晚餐。到了巴刹，小乐看到一个老奶奶提着很重的菜篮，走得很慢。小乐想了想，走过去对老奶奶说：“奶奶，我帮您提吧！”老奶奶高兴地说：“谢谢你，小朋友！”小乐帮老奶奶把菜篮提到组屋楼下。老奶奶从口袋里拿出一颗糖果，说：“这是给你的。”小乐摇摇头说：“不用了，奶奶，这是我应该做的。”妈妈在旁边笑了。晚上，一家人围坐在一起吃生日晚餐。爸爸拿出一本小乐早就想要的漫画书，说：“生日快乐！”小乐高兴地打开一看，正是他最喜欢的那一本。他一边吃着热腾腾的鱼丸面，一边想起下午帮老奶奶提菜篮的事，心里也是暖暖的。 问题：小乐在巴刹遇到谁？

Why: The answer is "一个老奶奶". The passage says Xiao Le saw an old lady carrying a heavy basket at the market, so he met an old lady. "一个小朋友" is wrong because no child is mentioned; "一个卖菜的人" is wrong because the old lady is buying vegetables, not selling them; "一个德士司机" is wrong because no taxi driver is mentioned.
Read through for the gist first, then take each question back to the passage; for summary questions, choose the option that covers the main point of the whole passage.

📖 Passage — refer back as you answer
今天是妈妈的生日。小乐想给妈妈一个惊喜，他决定自己做一张生日卡。小乐拿出彩色纸和蜡笔，认真地画了一朵大红花，还在旁边写了“妈妈，我爱你”。画完后，小乐觉得卡片有点空，又加了一个小太阳和几朵白云。小乐把卡片放在桌上，然后跑去厨房把碗洗干净。妈妈回到家，看到桌上的卡片，开心地笑了。妈妈抱着小乐说：“谢谢你，这是我最喜欢的礼物！”小乐听了，心里甜甜的。
