PSLE Chinese Practice With Auto-Marking and a Mistake Book

Parents who search for this usually have a shelf of assessment books and a child who does the pages, gets them marked a week later, and never looks at the mistakes again. The two features in the search are the right two. Here is what each needs to actually do.

Automatic marking that explains

Marking on the spot matters because the child is still thinking about the question. But a red cross alone is no better than the assessment book. The explanation should say why the right answer is right and why the chosen answer is wrong, in Chinese the child can read, and in English a parent can follow.

A mistake book that comes back

A list of wrong questions the child can open is a filing cabinet. What changes results is a schedule: the same knowledge point returns a few days later with a different question, then again a week later, then three weeks later. Retesting with a different question matters; re-showing the same one tests memory of that one item.

Questions organised by knowledge point, not by paper

A full paper is good for timing. For fixing weaknesses, the child needs to be able to do ten questions on exactly the thing they got wrong: measure words, a group of connectives, one family of confusable characters. That only works if the bank is tagged by knowledge point and question type.

A daily set short enough to happen

A set of 5 to 15 questions depending on grade, about ten minutes, one button. Anything that needs the child to choose a level, a chapter and a paper before starting will not happen on a school night.
